History Aisu

aisuThe AISU born between September 2000 and May 2001, between a first meeting to be held in Berlin on the edge of the European Congress of urban history and the Constituent Assembly that it approved the Rome Statute. At the time of foundation, the group intended to follow the path of incorporation already made by other national organizations and wanted to play at the same time in our country the system of European conferences which were held every two years and with broad participation of international scholars. Imagining a series of themed conferences, organized every two years in different locations, it was intended to provide maximum possible openness of contributors, through the mechanism of the "call for papers" and with the indispensable help of the computer network. The biennial conference should then undertake a full and balanced representation of the different components of different disciplines and geographical areas. The impetus to the initiative had come from a group of researchers, scholars and academics formed mainly by economic historians and historians of architecture, in previous years, is one that others had found a precise reference point in activity in the study center for contemporary and modern Rome (CROMA) directed by Carlo Travaglini. città e fiumeIt must be remembered that, just in Rome in May 2001, held a conference on "Cities and the river", for the very large participation of Italian and foreign, for its division into themes and sub themes, that meeting can be viewed as a full dress rehearsal of what would AISU organized its biennial meetings. leggeThe first of these will be held in Lecce in the following year, in October 2002, and will be dedicated to the theme "The city and its limits" will be attended by 144 people, as speakers and / or coordinators from all over Italy and with significant representation from abroad (France, Spain, Germany, Great Britain and Canada). Different disciplines were present: in addition to the economic history of the medieval history, modern and contemporary art, archeology, art history, geography, history of photography and film. The ambition underlying the association was to give visibility to an area of study that lived during a promising development, but that still was not adequately reflected in both academic institutions and to this end we wanted to offer a useful soil comparison to the many young scholars working on the land which, however, were not adequate publishing outlets. The organization of a biennial conference would not have been sufficient for this purpose, it was thought, therefore, to launch their own media outlets and to activate a series of conferences intermediates associated with the annual meetings of shareholders. To do this it was necessary to equip the nascent association of a certain degree of formalization office. This and other reasons postulated the existence of a permanent structure providing for annual registration, a company's specific plan (with the president, secretary, treasurer and other board members elected by the shareholders); initially thought also to appoint a drafting committee. Donatella Calabi was elected President, Vice-President Carlo Travaglini. They were born in the meantime the website and the bulletin, which will come out with fairly regular intervals until the launch of the magazine "City and History". The ambition of the website and the bulletin was not confined to brief members on 'activities dell'AISU, but intended to provide prompt and complete even about events organized by others in an industry with uncertain boundaries: they would have appeared so references to conferences, seminars, competitions, publications, doctoral theses. copertina specchioThe magazine "City and History" was founded in 2006 as a joint initiative between the CROMA AISU and the second a constant formula: a theme section is headed by a asezione appear where news, reviews, reports. Many of the numbers that come out every six months, report acts of sessions and / or conventions made by the association. During the first decade of activity, were conducted at rates biennial conferences of the Association. In Rome, in June 2004, the second was held with the theme "Heritage and Urban Transformations" in Turin in June 2006 took place the third conference dedicated to "The City and the rules". The fourth, "The City and Networks", was held in Milan in February 2009. On that occasion, the shareholders' meeting has renewed its governing bodies and elected President Guido Zucconi, Vice-President Paola Lanaro. Tthe last one was held in Rome in 2011 with the title "Fuori dall'ordinario". Below, we also recall the conventions of "intermediate" that AISU co-organized in partnership with universities and other key institutions of the place:

"The knowledge of the city"
(Siracusa-Catania, September 2003), "Museums of
City" (Rome, December 2005)," The cities and the military in contemporary times "(Termoli, in September 2007).
