4-4 OECD and urban policies

Session Title Session Coordinator

4 - 4 OECD and urban policies

user business Vassiliki Petridou, University of Patras

Sessione

The Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC) was founded in 1948 with the aim to connect the European countries and the United States through the Marshall Plan΄s economic planning. In 1961, it was renamed as Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and its goal became to examine the conditions of economic, social and cultural development of the 36 countries participating in it.

As part of the investigations undertaken by the OECD for a successful globalization, in cooperation with governments and the European Commission, it provides its expertise services through reports, studies and analyses which –as theoretical guidelines– affect the development trends of the various nations and states. The data it offers at the service of public and private bodies are considered, as the result of comparisons and exchanges of experience, indisputable data for any economic and political planning at national and international level.

Considering urban issues as the backbone of the States' development prospects and globalization, one of the main fields of action of the OECD is to study on local and supra-urban development of cities, sustainable development, energy resource management, infrastructure and transport, cities -ports.

We are asking for presentations that focus on:

 - the role and the contribution of the OECD in the discussion between the economy, society and urban policy;

- specific case studies showing the OECD's involvement in investigating issues related to the organization of space;

- the relationship between urban planning issues and other research fields and / or other organizations in the context of OECD activities;

- The relationship between domestic policies and foreign aid on redefining the urban phenomenon.
